Aidan groaned as the alarm sounded through the room. Jay hadn't set it earlier when Aidan didn't go to school, but now he did. He pulled the pillow over his head and turned over, trying to block out the sound that meant he had to go to school. He did not want to...not at all. He took a deep breath and exhaled softly, remembering what Josh had said. He would only get to learn trick riding if he went to school. That was the deal. He groaned once more in slight agitation of the persistent noise and then finally rolled over and sat up.Turn it off Jay. His voice was groggy and croaky from just waking up, and he knew his eyes weren't ready for light yet. But even so, he reached over and turned on his bedside light. Squinting his eyes, he muttered something to himself and stood up.
Going to his dresser, he picked out a pair of jeans and a blue and yellow long sleeved shirt. It was nice enough for school he figured. All of the clothes had been Josh's when he was younger, but Aidan didn't really care. They were things he himself liked, so it was alright. The jeans were his though, for he was still to skinny to fit into Josh's, and Jay's were too short for him. He sighed softly and pulled the jeans on, and slid the shirt over his head. He put his battered adidas sneakers on, for they were the only things he had for shoes, besides an old pair of boots for the barn and riding, which were falling apart. But he wouldn't ask Sam for new shoes..That wasn't like him to ask for things. He looked over at Jay and shook his head with a small smile, and then went into the bathroom, brushing his teeth and running a comb through his hair. Josh would probably 'fix' it though. He went back to their room and grabbed his backpack, then went into the kitchen. |

Jay was up and bouncing, already been outside to help with chores. He sat before the table on his chair, crosslegged. Leaning his head back, he grinned at Aidan.You finally get up? he teased. Josh was at the stove, wearing an apron and cooking eggs, bacon, and sasuages. Looking back at the table, he sighed.Jay, will you go get Sam from the barn? he asked adn Jay ran off, skipping slightly.Hey AIdan. Take a seat at a plate.

He scowled at Jay's perkiness, which was weird for him. He usually never did anything mean to Jay, but scowling couldn't really be considered mean, coming from Aidan. It was only in play. He sighed and looked up as Josh spoke to him. Nodding, he put his bag by the door and then sat heavily in the chair, leaning back and crossing his arms. He had signed up to go, and he would go, but he never said he'd be happy about it. |

Josh brought the egg pan over and slide one off. Heading back to the stove, he brought back to the table the sasuage pan and the bacon pan.Take what you want, he said to him. Jay skipped back in with Sam following, yawning. She had been up most of teh night with Shady. Looking over at her, Josh grinned. Lately, it had been busy around here.

Aidan looked up and nodded at Josh's words. He scooped two pieces of bacon onto his plate, along with two sausages. His stomach grumbled hungrily and he started eating, at his trademark speed. He looked up as Sam and Jay came in, and made sure his mouth wasn't full when he spoke.How's Shady?He questioned and then started scraping his food again. |

Sam stretched again as Josh went over by her to have her grab some food.Ok for now. She hasn't been eating much but drinking quiet a bit, she said, taking some food. Jay grabbed some bacon and ran to the kennels, whistling to Dasi.

He nodded and then looked over a tthe sausage plate. He grabbed an extra one and went to find Ebony. He wondered where the puppy was. Going out of the ktichen, he went into the living room.Ebony? Come here girl..I got something good for you. He called out and furrowed his brow. |

Ebony barked from teh kennnels, now a wirey, all limbs female. She bounced up on the kennel door and bark again, more of a howl.

Recognizing her bark, he wheeled around and hurried out the door. He didn't know Sam moved her into the kennel. He jogged over to her and opened the door, slipping in and closing it behind him.Hey girl..look at you.. He said, petting her head happpily.Guess what I have for you? He questioned and opened the napkin, revealing the sausage. He picked it up and offered half of it to her. |

EBony took it gently, careful to not nip Aidan's fingers, and swallowed it whole. SItting down, she panted, her eyes dancing. Her tail slapped the ground softly.

He smiled as she took it, and then offered her the other half. He folded up the napkin and slid it in his pocket. He lowered himself to the ground so that he was sitting in front of her.I won't be around all day like I used to be...I have to go to school Eb...I'll miss you though. He said with a small laugh, scratching behind her ear happily. He sighed softly, not wanting to go. He would miss Charlie and Ebony, and all the other horses and dogs, and even Samson. He shook his head softly. He was acting as if he was going away froever. He smiled and waited for Ebony's reaction. |

Ebony barked softly and stuck her nose between the kennel door bars, her nose quivering softly. Her eyes were bright and she wiggled excitedly. The cattle mingled around the pasture, grazing. Samson bellowed at some steers that scattered.

AIdan sighed softly and gave her one last pat before standing and slipping out of the kennel. Closing it, he watched her looking out at everything. Shaking his head, he started walking back to the house, but turned around one last time.Bye girl..I'll see you when I get home. He offered and disappeared back into the house. Looking up at Sam and Josh, he sighed heavily. |

Sam looked up at Aidan, blinking sleepily.Hey Aidan. Think you will like yor first day of school? she asked, watching him.Ifyou are good today, I will call you out of school when Shady has her foal or let you skip that day. She was always pulled out of any class to help with a mare giving birth on the ranch. Josh grinned slightly, remebering those days.

Listening to Sam's words, he shrugged. He honestly couldn't tell her. Looking over to Josh, he glanced back at Sam.If those girls laugh at me like they did yesterday..I might not.. He said grdugningly. He still didn't believe Josh, and figured he was just kidding with him. Looking up in hopes as Sam spoke, he nodded.I'll try then..but if they ask me to tell about my past..or my parents..I'll probab;y freeze up... He said with disliking. That was his real worry, that they'd figure out that he was an orphan from an abusive home. |
