As Nicki stiffened, Melanie did too. Sighing softly, she watched the girl for a moment and then spoke her mind.I'm sorry if I said anything that offended you. But..it's up to you. I would really like to adopt you and help you...but that would mean you'd be living where there were two stables filled with horses. But it's up to you. I'll leave my number with the nun if you want to talk ever. Don't hesitate...I'm here for you. She said in a gentle tone. Sitting for another moment, she turned and stod, walking back to the nun. She wrote her number down and handed it to her, and then pulled her jacket on. She placed her baseball cap on to sheild her face from the rain and stepped out of the orphanage, hurrying to her SUV.

Nicki sat there for awhile, waiting for the lady to leave. Once she was gone, she looked back at teh door, her cheeks covered in tears. She didn't want her to leave, Wiping the teras, away, she ran after her, hold Chester close to her so he couldn't get hurt.Wait! she cried, running in the rain.

Melanie quickly unlocked the doors to her vehicle, but suddenly heard a voice. Turning around, her brow furrowed, she stared through the rain. Seeing Nicki, her heat jumped slightly. She jogged back over to her and took her elbow gently, pulling her back into the dry orphannage. Melanie was sopping wet, but she looked at NIcki, wondering what it was.Yes?

Nicki panted, water running down her face and from her air.I want.. to go home.. with you, she said hesitaently. Chester actually remained quiet this time.I want to see a horse again.

[Melanie]

She listened softly to her words, and nodded, her eyes shining. She wouldn't hug her yet...for she didn't know how she would be with that. But she put her hand on her shoulder and gave her a light squeeze.I would like nothing more then that... She said. She took her arm gently once more and brought her to the front desk, to the older nun this time.I'm interested in adopting Nicki.

The older nun, Sister Rose, looked at her.You want to adopt young Nicki? Ok, I will get the paperwork for her, she said. Chester squwacked at her and Sister Rose glared at him as she walked by.

She nodded softly to tell her that she wanted to, and then looked over at Nicki with a small smile. She waited for Sister Rose to come back, and then she would fill out the paperwork happily.

Sister Rose cmae back, carrying soem papers, and handed them to Mel, telling and pointing to the spots to sign. Nicki sighed softly, leaning on the wall and holding Chester. He nibbled on her fingers and Nicki smiled softly. Finally they were getting a real home.

Melanie signed in all of the right places, and then smiled, handing the pen and last paper over to Sister Rose. She could barely contain her excitement. Taking the nun's hand, she shook and then let go.Thank you...thank you so much. She said and then turned to Nicki with a bigger smile. She laet it fade as she walked over to her.Do you have any things for you and Chester?

Nicki shook her head.Just me, Chester, and my blanket, she said, motioning to the towel wrapped around her waist. Underneath it was a pair of baggy shorts.
