The morning air was crisp and fresh, and the sky was a peachy hue. The trees on one side of the trail were alive with the sound of birds singing. On the other, there was a gentle sweeping slope of grass, and deer were grazing peacefully on the lush grass. A thudding noise made the stag in the group look up, his hazel eyes scanning the line of trees, and slowly a shape came into sight, but he went back to grazing, it was only another one of those horses. The stallions neck was sinewy with sweat and he snorted with each movement he made, a slight foam collecting on his lips and bit. Kai, continued asking the stallion to stay on the bit as they moved at a collected canter along the trail path, and the mans blue eyes looked over at the deer for a moment before he slowed Caspian to a walk, and allowed him to stretch his neck. Kai patted the horses wet neck and sat back in the black leather English saddle. He loved mornings like this, when it was quiet and without all the noise of a town or city. He rode on a little further, but he snapped back to reality as he though he heard a sound of either a horse or a person on the path behind him, and looked back over his shoulder.

Droplets of flower tears dot their cheeks, the things we call dew.
The stillnesss of the morning was all well and need after a long night of yelling and screams. Sandy closed her eyes and took a deep breath of the clean air. So much better than city air, she tought, and looked around. Her blonde hair was tied back to keep it out of her face and a cap made sure that no stray pieces fell out while she was riding. A slight wind blew, making her shiver, but she clucked to Donner to keep moving. He snorted and tossed his head angerily but kept along. They were slowly getting to know eachother, him being a untrusting horse and Sand being shy.
Donner perked his ears and listened, still going at a easy walk, as the sound of hoofbeats came closer. Sandy stood up in her stirrups, peering down the trail, and shrugged, guiding Donner off trail and into the tall grass. A coyote started and streaked off as Donner reared a little, feeling playful. Waiting until he was on the ground, Sandy smacked his shoulder, scolding softly but letting him have some fun as he pawwed at the grass.

The young man was sure he had heard someone on the trail behind him, maybe more deer were coming to join the ones already on the sloping glade. Kai shook his head, maybe someone was out walking their dog or something. He suddenly realized that they had stopped moving and tuned back to see Caspian’s ears perked and his nostrils flared, he stood poised like a figurine in the clear morning air, and kept staring. Kai gave a little tug on the reins, but the stallion didn’t respond. The chestnut stud snorted loudly and then started walking at a nudge from Kai, but kept his neck held stiffly in the direction he had seen something or heard something, Kai couldn’t decide which. A few moments later, the pair stopped again, and Kai let out an exasperated sigh and was about to give the stallion a tap with the whip to get him listening, when he saw what had him so interested. There was another horse out in the long grass, a blonde girl riding him. Caspian bobbed his head a few times then let out a very loud whinny in the direction of the other horse, making Kai jump as he did so.

Donner saw the other horse and snorted, prancing and tossing his dapple head. He picked up his feet and moved into a trot but Sandy pulled him back into a walk. With a snort, he obliged but moved into a power walk, plowing through the grass. Sandy felt that she should pull him back in but decided not to. After all, plowing through the grass would help strengthen his legs and he needed powerful legs to ride in a cattle chase. The rig snorted and gave a slight whinny to the other horse, ears perked.
After awhile, Donner hopped sideways, getting onto the shorter grass, and hurried over, stopping to sniff at the other horse. Sandy scolded her horse, having almost fallen off when he did his hop and looked at the other rider.Ah, hello, she said, fiddling with ehr reins.

Kai watched as the other horse was allowed to come through the grass towards him and Caspian, and the stallion began fidgeting beneath his rider. Kai allowed him too for a few moments, and then asked the stallion to stand, and he did, but he kept pulling on the bit.
Caspian snorted softly as the other horse came over, his ears pricked and arched his neck, taking in the scent of the other horse, his nostrils flaring. Kai sat ready to pull the chestnut stud away if he decided that he wasn’t going to be friendly. He then realized that the other rider had spoken, so he responded, allowing his reins to slacken a little.''Oh, hey'' he said, a little blunt he decided, and searched almost desperately for something else he could say, then inspiration hit him and he spoke up ''Nice horse you've got there'' he said, nodding towards her mount approvingly.

Sandy gazed at Donner, stroking his slightly damp neck.Thankyou. I am exercising him for my boss. His name is Donner, she said softly as the rig flipped his head, snorting. Show off. Her reins tightened, a subtle command to behave, and he settled down, blinking sleepily.Donner's a quarter horse rig. What kind is your's? Rig, it always sounded wierd to her. But she had learned that with Donner, only one ball dropped and the other stayed up. So they snipped the one and tried to sell him as a gelding. That was when one of her boss's agent's stepped in and took him. It would have been dangerous to sell him to somewho who tought he was a gelding.

''Oh, this here is Caspian-'' he said, loosening his reins a little more as the stallion nibbled at some leaves on a low hanging branch, Kai paused to check that they tree wasn’t a poisonous kind, before continuing.''He’s a Hanoverian stallion, only stud we have at Pine Brook at the moment'' he said, referring to the stable he had come to acquire. Kai had been fixing the place up over the past few months, renovating the house and the stables. He finally got the arenas finished as well.''You say your exercising him for your boss? What stable do you work at?'' he asked in a soft tone, distracted as Caspian jumped as a frightened pheasant crashed out of the nearby branches, no exactly being the most graceful of birds and landed with a thud amongst the tall grass. The chestnut stallion snorted at where it disappeared and shook his neck, his recently trimmed mane becoming ruffled.

Donner watched calmly as the pheasent flew by. He had spent two week sin a shooting range then another two in a horse back pheasent hunt with his owner. Sandy watched the pheasent too, then turned to Kai.Oh, I work at Green Creek Ranch. Sam's the owner there and the area's vetriarian. That and she raises quite a bit of cattle, she said, playing with Donner's mane. She loved to braid it and then the after affect of the braid. But Sam didn't like it much because the burrs tended to settle in it.
Pine Brook huh? I heard about it, I think, in one of the New Hope horse magazines. You guys focus on English, right? The wind sighed through the long grasses, ruffling the horses' and riders' hair.It carried a sweet scent of lilacs.

Kai nodded as the girl spoke, he knew a bit about the vet, Sam. He hadn’t seen her, but as soon as his stable was getting more horses, he probably would. Cross Country wasn’t without its thrills, or its falls. He also might be needing a bit of assistance from a vet when one of his mares foaled. He had had the scans back, she was expecting twins. As great as that was, Kai seemed to be the only one to think one foal was more than likely going to die. He had a positive out look, but it still niggled at the back of his mind.
He was baffled, his stables had got mentioned in a magazine, well it wasn’t a world wide news broadcast, but at least it meant a few more people might start turning up.''Yeah, mostly English. I haven’t really tried Western all that much, I did when I was younger though..'' he said, and realized he was 'waffling' on a bit.''Oh, and i'm Kai, Kai Winters..'' he said, having not actually introduced himself yet.
