Aidan found the arena and remembered the route so he would know where it was in the future. He led her in, opening the gate, and knew that Sam would close it behind them. He led her forward and to the middle, then halted the pretty arabian mare. He put the reins over her head and patted her neck, waiting for Sam. She had said that they needed to adjust the stirrups, so he would learn how to do that.

Sam walked in behind them, her hands in her pockets. The barrels were set up adn the sand was smooth and not too loose. Walking over to Aidan, she smiled sidely."Mount up and we will fix those things for ya," she said, nodding to teh sturrips."Also, if you fall off her while learning, you will land in a cusion of sand. Belive me, its better than landing on rocks or hard dirt," she said, rubbing a scar on her ring finger.

He nodded at her words of mounting up, and he repeated the process from earlier. He took hold of the horn and the back, and put his left foot in. The stirrups were too long, so it took him a moment, but he propelled himself over. He settled gently and then took his feet out, stroking the mare's neck. Hearing her words about falling, he gave her a look. That makes me feel better then... He joked softly.

Sam grinned, walking over to adjust them."Hey, I know how it feels to lan on dirt and sand and I prefer arena sand," she said, adjusting. They were teh right lenght for his legs then and she patted his leg."First, walk her around the barrels," she instructed."We got to get you used to going around them and the pattern before we get speedy."

He laughed gently at her comment and then put his feet in the stirrups once she was done. He listened to her instructions, and then admitted rather sheepishly.I don't even know what the pattern is... He felt a blush creeping up, but how was he to be expected to know? He had been trained in english all of his life, and this was his first day riding western...and he liked it much better. He waited for her words.

Sam smiled."Follow me then," she said and went to starting line. Alexial wen t up behidn her and Sam followed a well known path to teh left barrel and circled it. She then went to the right barrel, circled it, adn headed to teh center one. SHe circle dthat one adn ran down the center across teh finish/starting line."Thats what ya do," she said wiht a smile. At least Alexial was a good teacher and tool for beginner barrel racing.

He nodded and remembered the pattern as they went around the barrels. It seemed pretty easy, but he knew there was a certain way you had to do it so you go close to the barrels without knockig them over. As they trotted back towards the finish line, he smiled in his excitement.Alright...what do I do now? He asked, waiting for her instructions. He wanted to go at the fast pace that the real bareel racers did, but he knew that he was a long way from there. But maybe he had a gift...probably not. He wasn't good at anything really..he got used to it after a while.

Sam smiled."You do it again but at a trot," she said, sitting down in teh sand. Later she would show him how to do it at a break neck speed, her on Samurai. Samuria was good at barrel racing, a fine mare."After that, you will learn how to lean and bend."

At least he got to increase his pace by one speed he supposed. He waited until she was finished speaking, and then asked Alexial for a trot. Once she went willingly, he steered her over to the first barrel on the left and took her around it, keeping her close but not too close. He already knew how to bend the horse, since he had done it in english. So that part was taken care of. And he leaned a little bit, but not too much, and he made sure his hands were there to help her around the barrel, but not in the way of her pace. THey went around the right barrel and he got her around it as well, and trotted back to Sam, halting her as they reached her. he looked at her hopefully.

Sam watched him, her face bright."Aidan, ride backand forth that way," she siad, point to teh strech of bare sand."And bend and turn Alexial every way you an think of." She perched herself on a barrel, watching. She had an itch she needed figured out.

He looked to where she was pointing, and then looked back at her in confusion.Alright... He told her, the confusion apprent in his voice. He did as she said though, and rode her at a walk. He bended her with his inside leg, still keeping her on the rail, but having her bend around his le. Once done with that, he tried to neck rein with her and get her to turn. But he found he was turning like he did with the english way. She still went, but he could tell it was awkward for her. It took him about two more tries, but he figured out how to turn with a neck rein.

Sam watched how they moved together, even though Alexial was confused by his cues. She moved smoothly, Aidan with her as if they were one. Whistling, Sam had them come back."Very good. Now try the barrels at a lope," she said, a cross between and canter and a trot.

He dind't know why she had him do that, but he came back and didn't question. He'd probably find out sooner or later. Hearing her next instructions, he nodded and asked Alexial for a lope. Once she went willingly, he steered her around the first barrel, bending her just a little bit so that she was able to get closer to the barrel. He sat slightly forward and then had her go aorund the next barrel, repeating the same process. They went around the last barrel, and they brushed it, and Aidan thought it was going to tip, but it hadn't. He had her go at a bit faster pace back, and then slowed her, looking at Sam. That barrel had been the only bad part, or at least he figured.

Sam smiled softly, Josh having stopped in and now leaving."Very good. Josh is going to get my mare and I am going to show you how you will do when you get better," she said. He was good right now but he needed practice and more style.

As Josh came in, he suddenly felt embarrassed, but he figured he shouldn't be. He was just learning, and when he heard Sam's words, he nodded. It would be exciting to see her run the barrels...since he knew she was going to go fast, like the professionals do. He patted Alexial's neck and waited for Josh to come back, or her next instructions.
