Rounding the corner, Ryan surveyed the billboard. There loads of ads, but he couldn't be bothered to look at them all and had decided to make his own. Having arrived yesterday, he was ready to look around. Beside him, reaching to his mid-thigh, sat Salali. For once, she was not misbehaving. Reahcing into his pocket, he pulled out the notice. Since he'd never been a whizz with writing, he'd typed it out clearly. He stuck it to the billboard, then read it through, just to make sure he'd got everything right.

Kai had noticed the flyer a few days ago, and had finally unearthed the bit of paper he
had written the number on from under a pile of horse files. Studying the info he had taken
down, he picked up the phone, and dialed in the number, saying the numbers as he
pressed them''... 07934471092'' he heard the tone of the phone ringing, and he leant
back in his chair, looking out of his office window as he awaited a reply from the
infamous Ryan Parry.

Ryan had waite a few days. Did no one need employees? Then, on the morning of the day he was planning to check on his notice, his cellphone began ringing. Digging it out of his pocket, he clicked the answer button and raise it to his ear, patting Salali as she nuzzled his leg, tailed wagging madly."Yeah?" he spoke into the phone, hoping that it would be an employer.

''Hello, is this-'' he glanced at the piece of paper ''Ryan Parry?'' Kai waited a
moment as he thought of what he should say next, and then began to speak more fluidly
down the receiver.''This is Kai Winters, from Pine Brook Stables. I am interested in
employing you" Kai said, Emilie walked in saying loudly something about a rat that
Miss Moggs, one of the barn cats, had just brought back and she had almost stepped on it.
Kai put a finger to his lips to indicate silence and shoed her away with a gesture of his
hand.

Ryan felt a thrill run through him. This could be his lucky break! Since he'd been planning his move for the last few months, and getting ready, it seemed like an eternity since he'd been able to go see the horses at his local stable. Now, the prospect of working with them everyday was wonderful. His parents had always told him he should work harder and aim higher, but all her had ever wanted to do was work with horses, ever since he'd started lessons at the age of six. He'd got his own horse at twelve, but had had to sell her four years later when she got too old. Now, he was looking to buy a new one around New Hope, and was hopeful that he'd succeed. However, first he'd need to top up his monetary supplies."Oh, hey," Ryan said, trying not to sound too excitable,"Sounds great. Shall I stop by some time? I think I saw a signpost for your stables somewhere... well, whenever's convenient for you."

Content he had gotten a positive response, Kai devised the day that would be appropriate
to have Ryan come and have a look round.''Hmm, how does Wednesday or Thursday
sound? I'm out on Friday and get back on Sunday.. So those would be the preferable
days'' he said, trying not to sound to demanding, he could have elapsed into a long
description of the new horses he would be having brought over from Ireland on those
days, but he kept it short.

Ryan glanced down at Salali as he pondered, trying to remember his schedule. He didn't have many plans, but on Wednesday he was going to do some shopping; he needed to buy food, both for himself and Sal."Wednesday's no good.. but I can do Thursday. That should be fine," he finished, smiling to himself."Any particular time?"

''Well, I'm usually up at 7am, and we start work at 8, So any time after 7 is alright''
he said, and scratched his chin in thought.''If you just park in the yard outside the
barns, my office is just up the stairs in the first one you come to'' Kai said. He heard
the sound of paws coming up the metal stairs to his office and the Australian Kelpie Riley
came in, his tail wagging, shortly followed by Sadie. Being the excitable sheepdog she
was, Sadie started yipping wildly ad trying to bite the phone wire. Using his foot to push
her away, Kai kept her as far away as possible from the phone. A few moments later both
dogs left, after they spotted Ash, one of the cats, in the barn below and decided to chase him. Followed
by a volley of hisses and the sounds of the dogs whimpering and running away.

"Sounds great," Ryan said, cheerily;"I'll be round probably late morning or early afternoon - I'm still not used to this town so it might take me a little while to get to ya!" He laughed lightly, then said a short,"See ya then!" and moved the cell phone away from his ear to press the little red "hang up" button. Then, shoving it casually into his pocket, he reached down to pet the head of his faithful Sally, who was still nudging him."Okay, we'll go for a walk," he sighed, and went to fetch her lead.
