The stable was hushed. The dogs kept quiet in their kennels, the birds, and sole chicken, were silent as were the horses, feeling the strangeness of the air. A beatifully colored horse walked slowly to the arena, being led by a young teenage girl, who looked at him curiously. A older woman stood in the arena, looking at the jumps and adjusting some. The girl, called Sarah, mounted the strange horse. He was called Sandpiper from his long, delicate legs and the way he walked, carefully choosing where he stepped. Piper gazed at the jumps, flicking and ear, and let Sarah kick him into a easy lope.
They neared the first jump and he soared over it, his feet easily making it over the jump. the next was a foot taller and he soared over it just as easy as the first, snorting as if to say, These are so dull. They went over the jumps, one by one, each alittle taller than the last. Finally, they reached the last one, the tallest, atleast 5'6. Sarah tensed up but Piper soared over it as easy as the others, tossing his head when he landed. Alyssa clapped, her eyes watching the horse curiously.Try him over them again, she called in her carefully pitched voice she had trained to go over the sound of chotic dogs and screaming horses so it easily reached Sarah in the quiet arena. Sarah nodded and pushed Piper into a easy canter, going over them again.
Piper came to the middle jump, a easy jump, when he reared up, screaming in such a rage Alyssa rarely heard except for in the wild herds in the mountians. The horse screamed again and began to buck, Sarah clinging for dear life. Piper reared up to his full height, hoping forward and lashing out his hooves. When he dropped down, he flicked an ear as if nothing happened, Sarah's eyes streaming with tears but not making a sound. What happened?
