[ Riding Arrow ]

Charlie finished brushing off the tri-coloured gelding, and then tacked him
up. Kai had recently decide upon changing the Jointed Eggbutt Snaffle bit for
a Link Dutch Gag with 3 rings, it would allow Arrowto be controlled a bit more
easily. But Charlie would have to ride with light hands now. He fastened the martingale
onto the saddle, and then mounted the gelding. Arrow was already testing his bit, biting
and chewing the metal. Charlie nudge the gelding forwards, Kai stood by the door.
''C'mon then'' he said, and Charlie walked the horse inside.''Right get Arrow
warmed up first, do a few walk to trot transitions''. Charlie walked up to the sign on
the arena wall reading 'C' and then trotted for six strides, then walked again. On the next
long side of the arena he trotted to C and the halted. This continued for fifteen minutes,
then again on the other rein.

''Now lets get a bit of canter out of him'' Kai said, standing in the middle of the
indoor school, watching as Charlie rode on the outside track. Charlie asked Arrow to
canter, but the gelding ignored his kick, and then he gave him a tap with the crop. Arrow
bucked and then on the next corner cantered. He did this for two laps on both reins. Mean
while Kai put up a 2'9 straight pole just on the inside track by 'E'.''Do a few twenty
meter circles, then bring him down over this'' Kais said, watching as Charlie asked the
gelding for canter and completed three circled then came towards the jump. Arrow started
tanking towards it and Kai shouted across at Charlie.''Slow him down a bit! You want
a short bouncy canter, this isn’t Cross Country!'' he said, and Charlie pulled Arrow in
a bit, the horse shortened his strides and then leapt neatly over the jump.
