Summer felt bad that she had dissapeared. Nobody knew where she had gone hopefully they had fed her horses for her. Summer knew that Caleb would understand. She'd been called home after her father had passed away from a horseback riding accident. She'd traveled home, unable to take her horses with her and to call anybody, her mother needed her desperatly. Both windows were open in her four door dodge truck. She sat up high in the seat, her cowgirl had on her head. As she drove up to drive all she could think about were her horses and Caleb. She parked her truck and jumped down. She had on jean short shorts, tall cowgirl boots and a black Tee. As she entered the barn horses let her know that she was home. Her horses were fed and happy to see her. Summer petted and kissed them both, now only one thing was missing, Caleb.

Caleb had been listless and not himself while Summer was gone. He didn't know why she had left, but he knew that when she came back, only anger would greet her, and he wouldn't be able to control it. His feelings for her had subsided, and he didn't know what was going on anymore. Right now he was exercising one of the rowdy thoroughbred horses on the track, with Melanie trying to clock the time. But because of Caleb's mood, Star just wouldn't settle. Melanie sighed in frustration at her brother and the colt and watched as the bay thoroughbred took off like a rocket, heading straight for the fence on the rail. Fear gripped her heart and she jumped out of the box, sprinting after the two.Caleb! Pull him up! Pull him up! She yelled after him. This couldn't be happening. She halted and watched as if it was in slow motion. Caleb was literally hauling on the reins to make Star straighten and stop, but the colt wouldn't obey. As Star neared the fence Caleb knew what he had to do, or he would be killed. He threw off his stirrups and jumped off, landing haphazardly in the dirt and clinging his shoulder. That had hurt...but he was alive. He watched as things weren't so good for the young colt. He hadn't seen it happen, but Star came away with a gashed open chest. Melanie's heart wrenched from her chest and she took hold of the colt, looking at Caleb in disbelief. Seeing him holding his shoulder, she spoke hurriedly.Caleb...are you alright? Go to the house..there's a sling in there for your shoulder...it looks dislocated. She told him hurriedly, her eyes widening as he passed by, the joint obviously not connected anymore. She groaned and led the horse painstakingly back to the barn, not noticing Summer.

Summer had heard people moving in and out of the barn, she knew that Caleb should have come down to the barn by now, he was just as horse crazy as she was. She'd heard the commotion on the track. She jogged to the door to watch. Her eyes fell on Caleb as she had walked half way down to path ot the track. As the thoroughbred had ran and wouldn't listen to Caleb her eyes watched him in disbelief. She watched him fall adn seh gasped. Summer watched the Girl tell him something and then lead the coolt past her into the barn. She ran down next to Caleb, she spoke Quickly.Caleb are you ok? do you need any help? She thought he'd be happy to see her, and she hoped he was.

Melanie led Star into the barn and becasue she had had training to become a vet, she started cleaning the wound. She would take him to Sam to have her sew up his wound, but hopefully she could make the trip out here. Sighing, she patted his neck and then had him stand in the crossties. He'd have to stay there until the gash could be sewed up and protected so he couldn't hurt it anymore. Going to the phone she started to dial the vet's number. Caleb's face was pale as he felt the pain overwhelm him. Closing his eyes, he suddenly heard a voice. Looking up in confusion, he recognized Summer. His eyes widened, but then darkened and he pushed himself up. He shook his head.No Summer...I don't need your help. He said angrily. He walked right past her, holding onto his shoulder, which was clearly out of its socket. But he didn't care. He knew Melanie would be able to put it back in and then all he had to do was wear a sling for a couple of weeks.

Summer saw how his shoulder was a little messed up from the fall. She studied his face for an expression, atfirst he looked shocked to see her. She could hear the anger in his voice and she was afraid that this would happen. Summer felt hurt inside, she knew that she should have told him. She felt really bad for not telling anoybody, but she didn't really want people to know, then they'd be all over her saying oh I'm sorry and everything like that. She watched Caleb walk past her and her eyes held hurt.I'm sorry Caleb, I'm really sorry I should have told you where I was going, but I didn't and I'm sorry. She spoke quietly, hoping he'd understand but she kent him and that wouldn't ever be enough to have him trust her again.

Caleb was furious. He didn't want to listen to her excuses or her words or anything else. SHe had been selfish, and that was the bottom line. And he couldn't stand people like that. He had loved her..he really had...but she had destroyed that emotion and he didn't know if he could bring back. He stopped as he walked, and then dind't even turn back to her as he spoke, his words lashing out.Yeah you should have...and maybe it's too late for apologies. He finished and closed his eyes. Reopening them, he walked forward and into the barn. He saw the Melanie had Star in the crossties and he went into the office. He spoke to her quietly and she knew what she had to do. A loud pop followed by Caleb's yell was heard and then that was it. He came back out, his face pale and his eyes pained. That had hurt more then he had expected. But it felt slightly better. But he still needed to wear the sling or it would never heal properly. He groaned and then walked over to Star, trying to not think about Summer.

Summer looked shocked as she watched him. He was really mad and she felt like her heart was weighed down to the pit of her stomache with guilt. Her sorrow filled eyes traced him as he walked. They soon found their way up and traced his dislocated shoulder. She wished there was something she could do, but there was nothing. She listened to his harsh words and spoke before he entered the barn.I'm sorry My father just died and my mom has a terminable illness She didn't want him to feel sorry for her, she wanted him to understand that was why she had left. It had been a dark and cloudy day on the day she left. Summer didn't want it to be this way she really wished he'd forive her but she knew that he would never forgive her that easily. After he dissapeared she head the loud pop and his scream. The sound of him in pain sent a chill up her spine, and the pop made her cringe. Summer ran as fast as she could to the barn where her horses were located. Jogging down the isle of the barn she stopped between both of her horses stalls.I'm sorry guys that I put you through this, I shouldn't have come here, I don't fit in and I only Piss Off people, I shouldn't have leaft eaither. she sobbed. Summer wished she hadn't have left, she really regretted it now. As both horses put their heads over the stall door she stroked their faces. Summer moved to Flash's hand and cried into his mane. She wished that Caleb wouldn't hate her or be mad at her anymore, she wished she couldn't have mad that stupid mistake. As tears streamed down her face Summer wished it could all be different, maybe she was right maybe she should have never come here at all.

Melanie looked out and down the aisle, seeing Summer crying. She sighed softly, knowing her brother wasn't in any mood to be talking to anyone. She had called the vet and he would be here soon, to stitch up the racer, and all would be fine. THey just had to fix their relationship. And she knew she had to help somehow. Taking a deep breath, she exhaled, knowing Caleb had gone up to the house. Walking forward, she kept her gaze to the floor until she reached the girl. She knew Summer, but she didn't know if Summer really knew her. She cleared her throat after a moment of silence and then started speaking, not wanting to waste any time.Look..I know you don't know me very well...maybe not at all. But I'm Melanie...I'm Caleb's sister. And I know him better then anyone. And what you've been through has probably been hell...but Caleb and I know how it feels. We lost both our parents last year, and it's hard. I know. But don't ignore him. Even if he doesn't seem as if he's lsitening. Go up to him and let him know how you feel. Don't let him push you away. He's done it for far too long. She told her hoenstly and then gave her a concenred look. She shrugged softly and then walked away, going to Star's side and standing with him while they both waited for the vet.

Summer had her face burired in Flash's neck and she didn't hear the girl come up until she spoke. She wiped away her tears and turned to listen to her. He face was red and she felt silly crying at a stable infront of the stable owner. She nodded and listened not only with her ears but with her heart. Summer knew Melanie was right and she smiled weakly. Thanks she spoke softly. She kissed Flash's muzzle and left the barn. She had to listen to Melanie, she just had to. Summer felt bad for entering the house but she had to set things straight like Melanie said. There was a wary smile on her face as seh watched Caleb, she didn't know if he knew she was here or not. She spoke softly, and it sounded like she was crying, but she was on the verge of crying.I know that you'll hate me but...I....I Just. Summer stubled over her words while she began to cry some again.I don't care if yuo hate me, I just want to to know I'm sorry, I didn't mean it, You meant everything to me Caleb, everything. The word everything came out at a wisper.I know what you've been through Melanie told me and I'm sorry, I didn't want to tell people about my parents because I hate it when people feel sorry for me. But you were my friend, you helped me fit in, you made me feel like a somebody. Tearns were rushing down her face at this point.I love you Caleb, and you won't feel the same way about me but you have to know that, I don't care if yuo hate me, I love you, and I always will She turned quiet but she stilled sobbed. As she turned towards the door to leave she didn't face him, she couldn't, she just couldn't.

Melanie sighed softly, not knowing how that was going to turn out. SHe hoped it would work, but she didn't really know what was going to happen. Taking a deep breath, she exhaled and held the cloth to Star's chest, hoping that this wouldn't affect the horse's life. She didn't care if he couldn't race again, but he should be able to live the life of a normal horse. SHe shook her head softly. THis was all of her fault. She should have never put Caleb up on a keyed up race horse when he was so tensed himself. She let herself slide to the ground and broguht her knees to her chest, just sitting with the colt, wondering why life had turned out this way. In the house, Caleb stood by the window, staring out, spacing out himself, not knowing what to think. The he was wearing the sling, and it was black in color so it wouldn't clash with anything or really stand out that much. Except for the white strap going across it. He sighed and then heard the door opening, thinking it was Melanie. But then Summer's voice rang out across the silence, and she sounded upset. His fault..he kenw that. He turned, listening to her speak, his heart splitting as she began crying. He looked up as she said she knew what had happened to him, and then he looked away, not knowing what to think. But he knew what he had to do. He walked forward hurriedly, wanting to catch her before she went outside. He reached her and touched her shoulder, turning her to face him. He then stepped forward and brought her into his embrace, holding her gently as she cried.

Summer reached for the door and she heard footsteps. She thought Caleb was going the other way but his touch on her shoulder made his heart do a backflip. She turned to face, him and smiled slighlty at him embrace. She wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him. She was happy, atleast he didn't hate mer now.I'm sorry Caleb She really felt bad but was happy that he acknodledged her, and her appologie. She wished she could tell him she loved him, which she does, but it would break the moment, she still had a lot of work to do to repair their relationship but this was the first step in so many, building the foundation to build on. A hot tear rolled down her face as she shut her eyes and hugged him, she never wanted to let go.
