Sam sat in a leather chair, a cowhide rug before it. Her bared feet were tucked under her bottom and she had her head to aside, leaning on her hand. Duke sat by the door, snoring loudly. The air conditioning broke down and it was cooler by the door where a draft came throguh. Lady was lying before Sam's chair, her eyes half closed as she dozed. Only Iris was sitting up and she was looking out the window, her ears perked as the moon rose. Sam looked over at her and smiled, reaching for a leather bound book on the stool next to her. There was sometime before she ahd to go to bed and she wanted to see some memories. She flipped through the pages, pausing at each one with a happy, but sorrow filled face.  her cousins after a cattle drive  Chika, the ranch brood mare  High school best friend  sister's first horse and ride.  Uncle Ben  Tic Tac, the Buck-a-roo!  Josh on Rita  Cousin Josh Sam smiled at those pictures and flipped hrough it somemore, sighing softly. Iris came over and laid next to her feet, her eyes closed and she snored away, almost as loud as Duke but he had more lung to snore through. more current photo of Josh

Sam opened an envelope next to her and she looked at the pictures, smiling. She flipped to a blank page and put them in, touching them softly.  Jay, my cousin at a different part of a city slicker trap.  Haley, my sister at a city slicker trap, hore back riding in the mountians.  A buddy from the home ranch. |

The hounds began to bark, all headed to teh door. Sam quickly closed her photo ablum and slide it under her chair. Then seh got up and wiggled her way though the dogs to answer hte door."Yes? Oh hey Jake," she said, trying to open the screen door without letting a flood of dogs trample him.

He smiled, the dogs were just like home.You guys know me! Jake reassured them. He looked up at Sam.Hey Sam, I was just coming over to see how 'yer doin'. He said, not telling her that the real reason he was here was because he wanted to ask her out.

Sam smiled slightly."Come on in. Hang on, side step for a second." Sam prepared to open the door, hidng the fact she was glad Jake was here.

Sam thre wopen teh door and the race was on. Lady barrled out first, followed by DUke and Iris and then Anna. Sam chuckled as they ran around the yard and looked at Jake."Come in, jsut ignore the mess." Aroudn the room was papers and books and other things, including a air of little kid pants.

He smiled as he walked in, the small boquet of flowers and a picnic lunch were already set up.Hey, looks like someone lost their pants! Jake said.Sam..... He ask.Do you wanna go on a trail ride real quick?

Sam blinked a few times and smiled."Sure.. Wana come with me to the barn?" Quickly, she picked up Jay's pants and tossed them in teh kitchen, them landing in the doorway of the laundry room."My little cousin is staying with me," she said, explainging with there was pants in the living room and why the place was a mess.

Sam laughed softly, running her hand through her hair."Yeah. He had a brace and eh just got it removed so he si a hand full.. Always bouncing. His dad asked if he coudl stay with us for awhile whiel he dealed with home stuff so I said sure." As if he heard hsi name, Jay ran out of Josh's room, holding tightly to a old radio. Josh barrled after him, growling something about giving him a swirlly.

Sam smiled and headed outside, stretching. Today she wore a normal outfit: rippped pants with stains, old checker shirt that buttoned up, and no shoes. Duke and lady barked and howled at a tree, having stuck a cat up there. Sma looked at them and chuckled."SO do you wanna borrow a horse or do yu have one of yours with ya?"

I rode Stinger over. He said motioning to the grey arabain tyed to the fence.
