Sam stretched softly and looked at Aidan, her eyes studying him closely.Aidan, would you like a better job? she finally asked. Ebony laid down next to him, having crawled off shi lap, and snoozed softly. Sam's question had been bugging her fo rages, though, and she was glad to finally have it out of her.

He furrowed his brow as she questioned him, not knowing exactly what she meant.What do you mean? He questioned, waiting for her reply. His hand rested on Ebony's back and he looked up at Sam with slight confusion. |

Sam smiled slightly.I need an asssitant, you know helping me out with vet animals by like keeping them calm, feeding or watering them, small stuff I can't do. Jay doesn't liek doing it anymore. He is more of a trainer then a healer. I was wondering if you wanted to tak ehis job as my assistant, she said.

He listened quietly, feeling excited. But he couldn't get his hopes up over all of this. He just couldn't. Looking down slightly, he shook his head gently.I can't...I wouldn't be able to help them...or you. He said and stood up suddenly. He walked, or rather limped to his and Jay's room, going to his bed again. How could he heal an animal when only pain and sadness was brought his way? |

Sam watched him go and sighed. Ebony whined softly and went over to her siblings, laying down with them. THey huddled together for warmth and to wait for Lady to return. Sam rubbed her bandaged knuckles and sighed softly again, rubbing her temples soon. Why was he so scared of everything? She wanted to scream but didn't. She need to talk and work with him carefully and kindly.

Sam looked up a thim and smiled sidely.Just trying to rope a new assitant, Sam said, standing up.Jay wants to learn who to train horses more then try to heal them and Aidan doesn't want the job. The pups began to move at the sound of Jake's voice.

He was getting himself worked up and angry, and he knew he wanted to see Charlie. But that would mean going outside. He just couldn't do it yet. So he opened the window to let the fresh air in, and then went back to his bed, seating himself upon it gently. He wanted a home...he knew he did. But Sam and Jake wouldn't want him now that they were happily married...and he was more trouble then he was worth. He sighed softly and kept his eyes outside, watching everything. |

Sam smiled at her husband gently.Its ok with Jay. Josh is teaching him lotsa things and giving him tips. He is already starting to work with some of the troubled horses, she said, stretching.

He didn't know that Sam and Jake were talking about him, so when he went into the living room, heading towards the kitchen, he heard Jake's words. He froze instantly and lowered his head. He didn't want them to feel sorry for him. He looked up at Sam and then spoke softly.Maybe...m-maybe you should call the adoption agency...just in case. He offered and then looked away. |

Sam looked over at Aidan and her face softened evenmore.Aidan.. why? Don't you liek it here? she asked, standing up. Ebony spotted Aidan and whined, galloping over. Her tail fanned the air and she nudged his leg, whining softly.

Aidan looked down when she spoke to him, feeling suddenly guilty. Taking a soft, deep breath, he exhaled and then looked up at her.I do...but...I've only brought you trouble, and that's not fair to you. I think...maybe it would be better for all of us if I went somewhere else... He explained softly. Hearing Ebony, he looked down when he felt her nudge his leg, and he gently bent down, picking her up and scratching her head before letting her back down upon the ground. |

Sam put her hands on her hips and looked at him, an eyebrow raised.Why wouldn't we want you? You are a good kid, jsut alittle jumpy aroudn the edges, she said like a mother. Softening her tone, she put a hand on his shoulder.Everyone would miss you here, Charlie, Ebony, Shady, even Samurai. And you know that yo can't take them with if you go to the adoption agency. Even though the nuns were nice there, they had their limits. It would be worse there with their scoldiings and strictness then staying here and be yelled at.

As she spoke, he understood. He had thought about it already. But it would probably be the best. BUt there was a deeper reason for all of this. He looked down and then back up at her, his eyes filled with pain and longing.I know..but I don't feel like I belong. I....I want a mother. I've never known what it felt like to be loved by anyone..and I guess I just...want it...It's selfish...but... He shook his head, shrugging his shoulders a bit. He didn't know how to finish it. |
