It was just turning to the evening. And the sky was a bright blue, with a few clouds hovering in the sky. The sun shone brightly as it slowly started on its way to the horizon it would disappear behind in about four hours. Darren hadn’t seen Kirsten around, but they had arranged to go for a ride, at least he would get a chance to ride Colby. The black Arabian pulled on his bit as they left the stable and followed a track away from it. They set off along the grass verge on the side of a quiet road, and stayed in a walk till they reached the gate to a field and asked Colby to side pass. Darren asked him again, and Colby swished his tail and reared up in protest, but he responded after a few encouraging words and Darren opened the gate, and walked in. He decided he would wait at this point for Kirsten and allowed the stallion to drop his head and sniff the ground whilst they waited.

Kirsten rode up on Princess Guy, a mare. She saw Darren and was relieved. She thought that she was early.

Darren spotted Kirsten riding along on a mare and waved with a free hand, and held open the gate for her as she entered the field. He was careful to latch it closed behind him, and then he asked Colby to side step again, before nudging the black arabian forward into a slow walk.''You ready?''

He noticed she wasn’t looking at him, and shrugged inwardly, maybe she felt awkward around him. He asked Colby to walk a little faster, but kept the reins a little loose since he wasn’t really riding him at a fast pace. The Arabians ears twitched at every sound in the barley next to him, but also kept an ear on the mare, obviously intent on what his surroundings where doing. Darren wasn’t entirely comfortable with the silence and decided to speak up ''So... you okay Kirsten?'' he asked off handedly, gazing into the distance.

[ ooc - isnt she gonna talk to him? ]
''Ummm...'' Darren shook his head and focused upon Colby, he asked him to trot and the stallion responded, trotting forwards with his neck arched proudly. Darren continued, he'd leave Kirsten to catch up with him once she had finished day dreaming. Every time the stallions hooves connected with the track around the field, a cloud of dust formed, and the stallion snorted loudly as some dust got into his airways, but continued the same pace.

Kirsten soon realized that Darren had left her so she cantered up until she meet up with him again. She asked Princess Guy to trot to keep up. Hi. She said quietly to Darren.

''Hey'' he said back, relieved that she'd finally said something. He kept Colby trotting and asked him to lengthen his stride slightly, namely extended trot. The stallion pulled at the bit in protest and then slowly allowed Darren to lengthen the horses stride. After a few paces, he settled back to a normal trot. At least he had an idea of what the Arabian could do now. Looking over at Kirsten he decided to speak ''So who's that?'' he said, looking at the mare she was riding.

He nodded and took in what she said and continued to ride in silence. After about five minutes of silent trotting along the side of the field of barley, and watching the top of the crops sway in the breeze, as they started going down a small slope in the field, he could see the field stretched quite a way in front of him and the arabian. He nudged Colby and the arabian slipped into a slow lope, and Darren dropped the reins a little so the black stallion could rest his neck as Darren rode. Kirsten didn’t seem very intent on talking, was she feeling awkward around him? Wither way he decided there was no point in talking very much, and so he just decided to ride ahead, and if she wanted to catch up with him again, she could.

Darren had been watching the rippling crops when she spoke, and it took him a second before he noticed that she had spoken. He turned his head to look at her quizzically and slowed the arabian he was riding just a little.''Yeah?'' he asked, not bluntly, he just couldn’t think of much to say in reply.

Darren listened to her, perplexed but turned his head and slowed Colby down immediately as he heard her voice quake slightly and saw the tears forming in her eyes. ''Kirsten, what’s wrong?'' he asked softly, allowing his mount to slow to a walk and loosening the reins so he could stretch his neck, but Darren kept his eyes on Kirsten, a somewhat concerned look in them.
