Angel.xx
The days had been growing shorter for around a month now, it was the middle of November and the leaves fell in graceful, lazy circles amist her. Her black hair cascaded down in sweet ringlets, and her green eyes had a blurry haze about them. She huddled within her Carhart coat and kept up a brisk walk. She had done it again, the thing that she had promised herself she'd never do. She had let someone into her heart and then ran off again. She knew that her filly was sold, if not, around five years old. A cool breeze blew about her shoulders, making her shudder with cold. She knew that it had to be midday because it was the lightest it had been since she left. She came upon a driveway, her feet crunching on the semi-frozen gravel. She recognized this farm. Could this be the farm where she had fallen in love for the first time in her life? She walked into a barn, huddling deep inside her coat. She sat in some warm, musty hay and curled up, soon asleep.

It was in the very barn this had fallen to sleep that a man with shaggy black hair walked down an aisle. Various horses greeted him eagerly, their velvety soft muzzles pushed out in a request for treats. The man obliged, going along the row and talking to each of them. He finally came upon a grulla mare and sighed.I know, I can't stand it either. All the waiting, all the anticipation. Slender fingers wrapped around the latch to the stall and unlocked it, and he let himself in. Face to face the with mare now, he spoke again. Sometimes I wish it would all end. Not only the waiting, but the world. Sometimes all the pain, the sorrow, the despair...it can be too much. Consider yourself lucky to not have so many stresses in life. Another sigh escaped him as he patted the mare's neck. Eyes to the ground, he exited the stall and walked down to the end of the aisle. A gray mare stood inside, waiting patiently for him to come.[bLet's go for a ride, Saga, he said while grabbing ahold of the mare's halter. The Kaldruber followed him down the aisle as he took her bridle off a nearby hook. There you are,, after slipping the bridle on. The man clucked to Saga and they passed one of the hay stacks. The duo exited the stables, and the man mounted up, taking one last look in the stables. What the...[/sub]

The girl's hair lay in a straggely mess, strewn about her face. She only faintly looked like she did three months ago. Her emerald eyes fluttered open and she pulled her coat tighter around her. She stood, paying no attention to the boy and misty mare at the end of the aisle. She pulled an anonymous bottle from her coat pocket and put it to her lips. She was not yet drunk, like she had been the last two weeks. She had promised herself that she'd never drink...so much for that. She put the bottle back into an "inside-the-coat" pocket and walked, slightly oddly, to one of the stalls, she leaned against it and looked around, waiting for the world to end.

The man dismounted quickly and led the mare into the nearest open stall. Once he'd securely locked Saga in, he rushed over to the girl.Oh my God, he said, unbelieving. It must be a dream, he hadn't seen that beautiful face in so long. This woman that he had loved had been gone for what seemed like an eternity, and it was unfathomable to him that she would ever return. Testing to see if this was reality, he actually pinched himself to assure he was indeed awake. Angel? Gerard questioned this girl who had such similar resemblance. Her hair was unkempt and she looked like she'd been through hell. But why the drinking? Angel didn't drink, at least not heavily. This woman before him smelled of liquor and walked as though she was not quite drunk, but well on her way. If this was indeed Angel, what had happened to make it like this?

Angel .xx
Glazed over, glassy jade eyes glanced at the direction that the voice was coming from. She wasn't a violent drunk, but a pretty easy-going one. She turned, a large scar visible on her collarbone. What? She asked, her voice heavy with the stench of booze. She put her scarred and scratched hands back into the warm fleece-lined pockets. Her drunken mind couldn't fathom whom this was.Wh-who are you? She asked like a fool. She turned her entire body to face him...could it...no, it couldn't possibly be Gerard, the boy she'd left now a man? [/sub]

Tired eyes passed over the 's body, taking in the tangled locks, scars, and the somewhat familiar voice. That voice-it was different than before, than when he had known her. He begged God that it was just the drink talking, that she really hadn't forgotten who it was. If she truley had, he didn't know how he'd live.Gerard, he responded, eyes searching her face for a hint of recognition.Don't you remember me? As she searched for an answer, his mind wandered through his recent past. It relived for a moment that awful day when she'd gone without a word. Since Angel had gone, she had probably found someone much better, much more deserving than him. But what had reduced her to this? This poor scrap of a who looked like she'd been to hell in a handbasket and come back to tell her tale. It seemed unlikely that this was his Angel. But how many s could look like that? It had to be her.

Emerald eyes grew wide, and the young woman stepped closer to Gerard. She stood for a moment, wrapped in confusion. She ran the next three steps and threw her arms around his neck, though she stunk of booze. She held him close.I'm sorry. She murmered into his shoulder. Her head became clear, this was the man she'd always loved. F*** that Jason guy that had reduced her to this. Jason had given her a home, but Gerard gave her love. Jason had given her money, but Gerard wasn't a drunk...for the first time, she didn't care if Gerard was bi, she loved him. She wanted to be with him the rest of her life.

Though slightly confused as to what was going on here, Gerard held her close, ignoring the smell of drink. He remembered when he'd been like this and she'd helped him out of it. Now it was time to repay the favor. No matter what happened, he'd keep her with him and take care of her, and let her know that life was beautiful and worth living. As tears slid down his cheeks, he vowed that no matter what he had to do, he would get her back to her old self and make her want to live. It's okay, Angel, it's okay. You're home now. You're safe. I'm going to help you. We'll get through this together, you and me. You'll see. Everything will be just fine.

As she stood close to him, remembering her wonderful past with him. The moonlit rides in the woods, and his kiss...Tears rolled down her own cheeks and she sobbed shamelessly into his shoulder, holding him close.Sasha and Jen'll never let me stay. I've ran off too much. She said quietly, but was silenced by his tender words, they meant so much.I'm sorry, I've been so stupid. I can't believe I left you... She continued quietly.

Gerard deciphered her words through heavy sobs. Why wouldn't they? You know they always need workers, and they know you're awesome. We're getting more horses, and you should see all the babies we've got. You're going to love it. His mind, too, wandered through their past, and he couldn't help but grin. After hearing her last sentences, he kissed the top of her head softly. It's okay now, I know you do that sometimes. No hard feelings. Gerard moved back a couple of inches and lifted her chin up so she could look at him.I think there's someone who'd like to see you.

A relieved sigh was emitted as he kissed her head.I shouldn't do it at all... She said softly, her gaze meeting his as she looked up. Her long black hair was tangled, and her voice slurred, but underneith the grit of life was the girl, Angel, now a young woman... As he spoke, a quizzical look came to her eyes...surely, they couldn't've kept her...she'd be five by now...not a rambucious two and a half year old...

Gerard took her by the hand and led her down to the opposite end of the aisle, his heart beating a bit faster as they neared their destination. He had refused to sell the mare in hopes that Angel might come back, and she had. Now he appreciated the time he'd spent arguing with Frankie and Matt, which consisted of them telling him to give it up. Gerard sped up the pace as they got closer, then stopped in front of the stall. Inside was a grulla mare, the same that Angel had left two and a half years ago. Gerard opened the stall door and let Angel in, waiting eagerly for her reaction.

She followed eagerly, her heart quickening it's pace with suspense. As they neared their destination she squeezed Gerard's hand softly. She almost fainted when she saw whom was in the wooden box stall. She let her hand slip from his grasp and she calmly walked to her mare, then, once she knew all was fine, she threw her arms around the mare's sleek grulla and white neck. She stroked her fondly, knowing that her being her was no coincidence, Gerard had made them keep her. She continued to pet the mare and looked at Gerard, motioning for him to come to her...

As Angel reconnected with her mare, Gerard grinned and leaned back against the stall wall. He knew the mare remembered Angel, and hopefully wouldn't give her much trouble. Gerard obeyed the gesture and went to Angel's side, curious as to what she wanted. He'd thought she would like a few minutes of alone time with her long-lost horse, but perhaps not. Snapping back to the present, he looked down at Angel.Yes?

She couldn't just let Gerard stand there like a fool. After a last pat to her beautiful fillymare, she hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek gently.Thank you sooo much! She murmered in his ear. She let him loose and kissed her mare's muzzle, continuously stroking her blazed face and whispering kind words and gentle lullabies to the horse. She turned back to Gerard.I need to get some sleep before I see the foals. My hangover's gunna be a killer. She said quietly, grinning at him sheepishly.
Eh, no muse....
