Sam walked out to the barn, halting before the stall Josh stood in, grooming a bay Arab stallion. Monk, one of the first horses on the ranch, nickered gently to her as she watched Josh. Josh glanced over at her and grimanced. Her eyes were dark and she had her hands on her hips.What the hell did you do? she demanded.I asked you to stay in the office today because a man was going to call about sponsering us in the championships and we need the support. You said you would stay in there and wait but instead, I find he called five times and now he isn't going to even consider us! Her eyes spat out ligthening rage and Josh glared at her.I was busy! I have to take care of Monk and Belle and Sweetie. They do need attention you know, he growled, eyes narrowed in anger. They bickered for about 10 minutes and Josh finally threw up his hands, bellowed something, and led Monk to the tackroom, tacking the Arab up in record speed. Before Sam could spat one more thing out, Josh took off atop of Monk and they ran across the field, up the hill, and into the woods.
Josh slowed Monk from a headlong gallop to a easy walk, letting him get his wind back. While the Arab took a breather, Josh couldn't help but feel guilty. Sam had asked him, he agreed, and now they weren't getting the sponsorship just because he didn't want to sit in there. He sighed heavily and stopped by a small pond, letting Monk take a drink while he sat on a rock, thinking.

From a nearby valley, you could hear the inceasing munching of horses' teeth. A sigh came from the young woman, the black horse next to her nuzzled her affectionatly. Chris was the only person to ever get through to the beautiful mare, Black Rocket. Chris stroked the mare's lightning bolt that went down her face. She patted the black mare's neck when she heard the clopping of hooves and the voice of a man. She got up, mounted the mare and took the makeshift reins in her hands. She clucked to the mustang and Rocket went into a springy trot.
Soon Chris arrived by the pond, she wasn't noticeable to Josh, but she could see him clearly.Josh? She inquired.

Josh jumped slightly and looked up, noticing Chris.Hey Chris. Whats up? he asked, turning to look back at the pond. Monk nickered softly to the new mare and went back to grazing, his docile nature making him seem.... cowardish. Someone ever tried to pick a fight with him, he would run away.

Chris dismounted her horse and tied the reins in a knot so they wouldn't get under Rocket's feet if she walked, trotted, or cantered away. Chris walked and sat by Josh, except she sat on the ground, not the rock. She bent one knee and hugged it to her chest while the other layed straight.Not to much, you? She asked, looking up at Josh, and then to the horses, and then back to Josh...

Josh shurgged, staring at the water, seeing the reflection of the trees and sky.Just getting chewed out by Sam. Had to get out and think, he said, looking over at Chris.Thinkin about movin' back home but I ain't sure yet. A breeze ruffled through, stirring the horses' manes and the leaves, making the loose ones drop onto the water. Like tiny ships, Josh thought.

Chris tilted her head to the left, sighing. She listened to Josh,At least she and Jake are still getting along. She said, she could hear her mustang walking over to Monk and sniffing him...She smiled, thinking of something...You can't leave Josh... She said, walking to the pond, filling a Cyprus leaf with water and going over to Josh...Cause I wouldn't have anyone to do this to! As she dumped the cold pond water over his head. She smiled and waited for his reaction...

Josh gasped and sputtered, shaking himself off as fast as he could.You devil you! he growled, stalking towards her in a threatening way.I should throw you in for that! Monk looked at the mare and nickered gently, lowering his head to munch at the grass he could find.

She jumped, turned and ran to the other side of the clearing.You couldn't catch me, soakin'. She laughed, bouncing about in a nervous/excited way. She skipped about, still laughing.

Josh sighed and fell over, stretching out on the ground and putting hid hands behind his head, staring up at the sky. Monk looked at his rider and walked over, shoving his nose in his face. With a yelp, Josh umped up, furiously wiping his face.Gah! I got frenched by a horse! he cried, srubbing his tongue off with his sleeve.

Chris smiled as Josh layed down, she was making her way back to him when Monk came by, after the "horsey kiss" She started laughing hard, she stooped her way over to Josh's side, still laughing as hard as ever.Haha! It's a bi-guy horse!

Josh glared at her, still wiping off his tongue, and, when he was finished, plopped onto the ground, sitting cross legged.Ya dork it wasn't that funny, he said, looking up at Chris. Monk trotted around them both and into the water, tossing his head happily.

Josh gave her the evil eye he learned from Jay but had to chuckle. Monk spotted Rocket and nickered, tossing his head and stomping at the water, splashing it up on his belly.Monk's a dork, Josh said, watching the goofy horse switch legs and do the stomping all over again.

Josh made a face at her and laid on his back, looking up at the sky.Don't make fun of me. I have had a bad day, he said quietly. Monk reared up slightly, then slammed his hooves into the water, squeling happily as a big splash hit him in the face.
