Sam suddenly stopped, her back stiff.Aidan, please... Don't say that... I love you too but don't say it wasn't my fault. It was and I know that.. I want you o be safe, she said. After awhile, she turned around, setting Whiskey's hind legs on the ground so he wasn't so scared. Sam's face was soft and sad but her eyes were caring and scared.I don't want you to get hurt anymore honey... I didn't want you to be in pain but at the same time, I didn't want you to be hurt inside. This was aimed towards his leg with scribbles on it. But they were nice scribbles by Jay, who was skipping down teh hall singing Monkey Pants. What the hell si Monkey Pants?!?!

Aidan's eyes filled with more pain at her words. How could he make her understand? Why wouldn't she just listen? Looking away as she spoke to him, he watched a she put Whiskey's hind legs upon the ground to relax him. He didn't make eye contact until after she finished speaking. It wasn't your fault...I won't lie. He said in slight anger. She wouldn't listen..she just wouldn't. He knew what she wanted, but she obviously didn't know what he wanted> He wanted her to feel as if it was her fault..because it wasn't. But he couldn't tell her that anymore. She would think what she would think. Sighing, he moved forward again, following after Jay and feeling the stares of the people in the waiting room.

Sam pressed her face against Whiskey neck, murmering softly in Gealic. Why did life have to be hard? Why did God hate her so? Oh mother Mary, help your child as she walks in darkness, she whispered in Gealic and finally stood up, picking up Whiskey. She walked down the hall, not seeing anything or anyone. All she saw was one thing, the sad, disappointed face of a young boy that no longer trusted her. Jay reached the truck and yelped, hsi eyes wide. A shadowy figure walked forward, arms wide and Jay ran into the man, hugging his waist tightly.NATE! he squeled. Nate patted Jay's head with a smile.Hey Jay. I heard my little girl was in trouble and came over, he said in a gruff but kind voice, looking around.

Aidan watched her and Whiskey softly, and went through the sliding doors as they opened up. He wanted to get away from the hospital and all of the staring eyes. Sighing, he shook his head a bit and then heard Jay squeal a name up ahead. One that he didn't know. Seieng the shadowy figure in the shadows, his heart instantly jumped and fear took hold of it. He tried yelling out Jay's name, but his voice wouldn't come. But the man looked like someone Jay knew, so he relaxed...but not fully. He wouldn't trust another man..that was for sure. Swallowing deeply, he crutched forward and didn't make eye contact with Nate, not knowing who he was or what he wanted. He reached the truck and balanced himself, opening the passenger door with one hand and then turning around. He pushed himself up and then settled in, putting the crutches in front of him. Closing the door, he buckled his seat belt and then leaned his head agiasnt the window, wanting to know when all of it would end.

Nate walked over to the passenger side of the truck, putting Jay in the bed so the truck, and tapped the window with a knuckle, motioning to roll it down.Thats Aidan uncle Nate! Jay said quickly. His paw shot him in teh knee so he has a fake one like Uncle Ben! Nate smiled back at Aidan and looked over at the sliding door as Sam came out with Whiskey in her arms. She didn't look at Nate, just went the long way around the truck, setting Whiskey in the bed with Jay and talking to Jay softly, telling him how to hold Whiskey when they turned.

AIdan shrank back from the window as Nate appeared suddenly, but he caught his motions. Furrowing his brow, he reached down and started rolling the window down. He only opened it half way, and stayed away from the man, not trusting him. He followed Nate's gaze to the sliding door and caught sight of Sam and Whiskey. The dog was hurt because of him, Sam was upset with herself becuase of him..everything was happening because of him. Maybe it would be ebst if he left. Taking a deep breath, he exhaled and lifted his pain filled eyes back up to the man before him.

Nate shook his head alittle as if ashamed and looked at Aidan with a raised bushy brow.So boy. Jay tells me your paw shot you in the leg and my little girl tells me she needs help around the ranch and I think I need to teach you somethings. Think you can trust me enough not to shoot me? he asked bluntly. Nate was very, very blunt. Jay sqwalled with unhappiness about Aidan shooting him and began to poke at Nate's head with a angery determination. Sam said something that made Jay sigh and stop, looking back at her with sad eyes.

Aidan forced himself to look at Nate, to look him in the eye. It was difficult, and for a moment he thought he couldn't do it. But he swallowed and listened to Nate's words. He didn't know what had happened to Aidan in the past...he couldn't have. Looking at his lap, he still stayed away from Nate. He couldn't help it..not after what had just happened.I won't shoot you. He said softly, almost too softly. He wouldn't touch another gun...not ever. And he would never hit anyone. What he was worried about was what Nate had said. The man had said that he would teach him some things. What kind of things? Would it be like the teachings his father gave him? He took another deep breath and exhaled, then waited to see what would happen.

Nate nodded, flicking at his hat so he could see Aidan better.Alright. I will see you at o-eight hundred hours. Sam will wake you up and you will meet me in the hay field near the barn, he said and walking around the truck to talk to Sam. They whispered for awhile and Nate pulled her into a big hug as she buried her face into his shoulder. But Nate had to get to his truck before it got too dark that he couldn't see and Sam had to get these two boys home. Both parted, Sam getting into her truck and starting it as Nate walked to his,

Aidan furrowed his brow at the words and shook his head. How was he going to be able to help with anything around the barn with a fake leg? When he was still on crutches? With a man he didn't even know, and certainly didn't trust? Sighing softly, he closed his eyes and rolled the window up again, not paying attention to anyone in particular. He leaned his forehead agaisnt the window and kept his eyes closed, letting himself drift off slightly, ignoring the pain that greeted him.

Sam looked over at Aidan, her eyes soft, then looked back at the road, gluping back some words. Would he enjoy learning with Da? She didn't know but she hoped he would try. A great big blue truck with white doors and a green roof followed them, rumbling softly. In the trailer behidn it, a horse screamed and collided with the walls. Two to take home and one to bring in.

Once they reached home and the truck stopped, Aidan opened his eyes. He hadn't been able to sleep at all. He pushed open the door and put his crutches out, then stepped out with his good leg to land upon them for support. He grunted softly and then turned, closing the door behind him. He wouldn't accept any help...none at all. He didn't want to be a bigger burden then he already was. Shaking his head softly, he spoke his thanks to Sam and Jay, and then crutched inwards. He got up the steps somehow and then opened the door, which was thankfully unlocked. Going inside, he sighed and went to his and Jay's room, ignoring everything else around him. He went to his bed, but got changed before he actually laid down. He wore pajame pants to hide his leg, and a normal tee shirt to cloth him. Sitting on the bed, he laid his crutches down and shoved them underneath it, then got under the covers, having to move his leg manually to get it under and situated. He pulled the covers up over his shoulder and turned over, closing his eyes and triyng to keep everything out of his head.

Sam sent Jay inside to get cleaned up and go to sleep, looking back at her dad's truck. He parked next to a high walled corral and Sam went over, looking in at the trailer. The horse inside lungest at her face, smashing against the metal sides before screaming in its rage and torment. But the one glimps at the poor beast made Sam's heart break. The once proud, silver beast was a raggety, torn nag, its sides covered in slashes and cuts. Some spots there was no hair. Its ribs showed and it's foreleg was wounded and banged. Yet, the proud horse would not show it. It merely snapped its teeth and screamed challenges to those around it. Nate walked over, putting a hand on her shoulder, and they waited for it to screamed and bang its slef into exaughtion, Sam's facecoveredby her hands.

Aidan couldn't sleep with the commotion outside. What was it that was making so much noise? It sounded like a horse, and he groaned at the thought. What would he do with poor Charlie? He pulled the pillow over his head and drifted off like that, trying to find a comfy position all night for his leg. Outside, the buckskin stallion that had become Jay's screamed in reply to the stallion inside tthe trailer. He reared slightly, pacing the edge of his fence closest to him. His nostrils flared, and his wild heritage showed clearly through the domestication that had come over him. He would only let Jay ride him, and so far only without a saddle and bridle. He didn't want any contraption upon him. He squealed and bucked, listening and answering back.

The horse froze, it ssides quivering, and screamed again, snorting. Not a stallion it was but a mare, a blue blooded girl from Arabia and abused here. No humans did she trust, not even teh ones that fed her or saved her. A scream came from her again, rearing up. It sounded as if she was beingmurdered, enough to make Sam begin to shake and make the horses in the pastures panick and beign to run. Would she ever run out of breath so they could get her out?
